QuickBooks Desktop Lost Bank Feeds? Keep Your Version and Bring Them Back
Short answer: Keep your QuickBooks and bring your bank feeds back. Intuit discontinued QuickBooks Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026, and each release before it in earlier years. Those versions lost Intuit's online bank feeds and can't download transactions from your bank, but Intuit's policy doesn't say the software stops working. Connect an AI agent or app to your bank through Plaid, and LedgerCrossing puts the transactions it pulls into QuickBooks Desktop, including versions where Intuit's bank feeds were discontinued. No bank connection yet? Download your statement, and an AI assistant connected through LedgerCrossing enters it.

Bring your bank feeds back with Plaid
Plaid is the service many finance apps use to connect to bank accounts. Connect an AI agent or app to your bank through Plaid, connect LedgerCrossing to it too, and your bank transactions flow into QuickBooks Desktop again. The agent pulls the new transactions from your bank, and LedgerCrossing enters them through Intuit's QuickBooks SDK on the computer where QuickBooks runs. It works on versions where Intuit's bank feeds were discontinued, because the transactions come through Plaid, not Intuit's bank feeds.
LedgerCrossing connects to AI agents and apps as an MCP server, and it works with anything that can make a web request.
1. Connect your bank through Plaid
In your AI agent or app, connect your bank account through Plaid. You sign in to your bank in Plaid's window, not in the chat, and LedgerCrossing never sees your bank login.
2. Connect LedgerCrossing to the same agent or app
Install LedgerCrossing on the Windows computer where QuickBooks Desktop runs. Then connect it to your agent or app, as an MCP server (MCP setup) or, for a custom app, through its HTTP API (API page).
3. Ask it to enter the new transactions
Get the transactions in my bank account "Business Checking" since October 1. In Acme.qbw, enter each withdrawal as a check from "Checking" and each deposit as a deposit to "Checking". Before entering each row, check whether QuickBooks already has an entry with the same date and amount in that account, and skip it if so. List every row with the account you'd use, and wait for my OK.
4. Check the list, then let it enter
Correct anything you'd do differently, then tell it to go ahead. Ask for the total it entered and compare it to the total your bank shows for the same dates. Do the same each week with a new start date.
The transactions go straight into your account registers as checks and deposits. You review them in the agent's list before they're entered, not in QuickBooks' Bank Feeds Center.
No bank connection? Have an AI enter your statement
1. Connect an AI assistant to QuickBooks Desktop
LedgerCrossing runs on the Windows computer where QuickBooks Desktop runs. Connect Claude Desktop on that computer: How to connect Claude to QuickBooks Desktop. claude.ai, ChatGPT and Meta Muse can connect from anywhere through LedgerCrossing Remote, which starts everyone read-only until the owner allows changes.
2. Upload the statement and say how to enter it
Download the statement from your bank's website, then attach it in the chat and give the rules in plain words. For example:
Here's my October bank statement. In Acme.qbw, enter each withdrawal as a check from the account "Checking", and each deposit as a deposit to "Checking". For payees I've paid before, look up my last check to that payee and use the same expense account. If a payee isn't in QuickBooks yet, ask me before adding it. Before entering each row, check whether QuickBooks already has an entry with the same date and amount in that account, and skip it if so. List every row with the account you'd use, and wait for my OK.
The assistant follows the rules you give it in the chat, so say how you want each kind of row entered.
3. Check the list, then let it enter
Correct anything you'd do differently, then tell it to go ahead. Ask for the total it entered and compare it to the statement.
4. Look at the result in QuickBooks
The entries are in the account register like any others, and QuickBooks' Audit Trail records each one.
For a card statement, the steps are the same: tell it to enter each charge as a credit card charge in your card account and each refund as a credit, and to skip payments to the card, since those are entered from the bank account. End it the same way: "List every row with the account you'd use, and wait for my OK."
Which versions lost Intuit's services
Intuit, in its QuickBooks Desktop 2023 service discontinuation policy: "After May 31, 2026, QuickBooks Desktop 2023 software will be discontinued. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Enterprise Solutions 23.0."
| Version | Intuit's services ended | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2023: Pro Plus, Premier Plus (all industry editions), Enterprise Solutions 23.0, Premier Accountant Edition Plus, Enterprise Accountant 23.0, Desktop for Mac Plus | After May 31, 2026 | Intuit's 2023 policy |
| 2022: Pro, Premier, Mac, Enterprise | After May 31, 2025 | Per Intuit staff answers |
| 2021 | After May 31, 2024 | Per Intuit staff answers |
Older releases went the same way, each about three years after it came out, on what Intuit calls "the historical 3-year software lifecycle."
What stopped
From Intuit's 2023 policy:
- "You'll lose access to Intuit services like QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, or online bank feeds."
- Online Banking: "You won't be able to download transactions, send online payments, or send online transfers." Intuit adds: "Uploading transactions will also get discontinued."
- Live technical support ends, along with other Intuit services the policy lists, such as emailing forms and reports from QuickBooks.
Web Connect (.qbo files). A discontinued version can't download transactions, and Intuit's Web Connect help says .qbo import needs a supported version. The policy's example error, "QuickBooks Desktop is unable to verify the Financial Institution Information for this download," is also listed in Intuit's Fix Web Connect import errors.
CSV and Excel. QuickBooks Desktop can't import transactions from a CSV or Excel file directly; its Excel import is for lists such as customers, vendors and items.
Every way to get bank transactions into a discontinued version
| Way in | On a discontinued version |
|---|---|
| An AI agent or app connected to your bank through Plaid, with LedgerCrossing | Pulls new transactions from your bank, and LedgerCrossing enters them through Intuit's QuickBooks SDK. No download |
| An AI assistant through LedgerCrossing, from a statement | Reads your PDF, CSV or spreadsheet statement and enters each row through Intuit's QuickBooks SDK |
| Intuit's online bank feeds | Stopped, per Intuit's policy |
| Your bank's Web Connect (.qbo) download | Intuit's Web Connect help says .qbo import needs a supported version |
| CSV or Excel import | Not available for transactions; Excel import is for lists |
| IIF file (File > Utilities > Import > IIF Files) | You build the file by hand in Intuit's format. Intuit says to back up the company file first, so you can restore it if the import goes wrong |
| Batch Enter Transactions | Accountant and Enterprise only; you paste every row and choose every account |
| Typing | Every transaction by hand |
Either LedgerCrossing route uses your own chart of accounts, vendors and customers, and you check the list before anything is entered. For every way to get transactions into QuickBooks Desktop, see How to import bank transactions into QuickBooks Desktop.
What it works with
Supports QuickBooks Desktop 2019 and later. Older versions back to 2014 use the same Intuit connection and should work, though we haven't tested them; the 30-day guarantee covers you.
That covers Pro, Premier and Enterprise on Windows 10 or 11 and Windows Server 2016–2025, including the discontinued 2021, 2022 and 2023 releases. We test LedgerCrossing on QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 21.0, a version Intuit discontinued after May 31, 2024, with no Intuit account signed in. QuickBooks has to be able to create transactions; view-only mode can't. LedgerCrossing doesn't work with QuickBooks for Mac.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get bank feeds back on QuickBooks Desktop 2023 or older? Yes. Connect an AI agent or app to your bank through Plaid and connect it to LedgerCrossing. The agent pulls the new transactions from your bank, and LedgerCrossing enters them in your company file after you check its list. No bank connection? Upload your statement to an AI assistant connected through LedgerCrossing instead.
Does LedgerCrossing need my bank login? No. LedgerCrossing never sees your bank login, and it works without an Intuit sign-in: we test it on a discontinued version with no Intuit account signed in. You sign in to your bank in Plaid's window, and LedgerCrossing enters transactions through Intuit's QuickBooks SDK on the computer where QuickBooks runs.
Is QuickBooks Desktop being phased out? Intuit discontinues each release on a schedule: 2023 after May 31, 2026, and, per Intuit staff answers, 2022 after May 31, 2025. In the US, Intuit stopped selling new Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus subscriptions after September 30, 2024; "This change doesn't impact existing subscribers," and Enterprise is still sold (Intuit). If you're keeping the version you have, LedgerCrossing brings your bank transactions back.
When was QuickBooks Desktop 2023 discontinued? After May 31, 2026. That covers Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Enterprise Solutions 23.0, the Accountant editions and Desktop for Mac Plus 2023.
What happens to QuickBooks Desktop 2023 after it's discontinued? Intuit's policy lists what ends: live technical support, and Intuit services such as Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments and online bank feeds. It doesn't say the software stops working.
Does Web Connect work on a discontinued version? A discontinued version can't download transactions, and Intuit's Web Connect help says .qbo import needs a supported version.
Where do the transactions go? Straight into your account registers as checks, deposits, card charges and credits, after you check the agent's list. They don't go through QuickBooks' Bank Feeds Center.
Will it enter something twice? Not if you ask it to check first. Tell it to look for an entry with the same date and amount before adding each row.
Does it work with QuickBooks for Mac? No. LedgerCrossing works with QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier and Enterprise for Windows.
How much does it cost? LedgerCrossing is $299 one-time per computer (limited-time price, rises to $349), with unlimited company files and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The MCP server is included in the product. Use it free on the QuickBooks machine or your office network; reach it from anywhere with your own tunnel (free guide) or LedgerCrossing Remote ($39/mo — you're paying for the hosted relay, not the AI).
Does LedgerCrossing replace the Web Connector for my other apps? Not for vendor-controlled apps. LedgerCrossing works with anything that can make a web request, so integrations you or your developer control can switch by sending qbXML as an HTTP POST. See Web Connector alternatives.
